Curriculum

AIMS OF OUR CURRICULUM

We aim to have a curriculum that effectively meets the individual learning needs of the diverse range of children who attend the school.

We aim to have a curriculum that supports the children in becoming as effective learners as possible thus ensuring they each achieve and attain their full personal potential.

We aim to have a curriculum that will instil self-confidence and belief into the children and empowers them to recognise their achievements and take responsibility for their own learning and progression.

We aim to have a curriculum which furnishes the children with the skills and the strength to manage changes and transitions in their lives.

IDENTIFIED AREAS OF NEED

COMMUNICATION AND INTERACTION – Our curriculum encourages the children to communicate and engage with their peers and with others in a positive and meaningful way.

COGNITION AND LEARNING – Our curriculum will support the children to become as effective learners as possible and develop an understanding and recognition of how they can progress as learners as they mature.

SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL HEALTH – Our curriculum will develop the children’s social skills and their ability to interact appropriately with others, both known and unknown to them. It will support them emotionally and ensure they feel safe, secure and confident in the school environment and beyond.

SENSORY/PHYSICAL/HEALTH – Our curriculum will ensure the children’s individual sensory, physical and health needs are fully met at all times.

FOCUS OF LEARNING

ATTITUDES AND ATTRIBUTES – Our curriculum will instil the children with lifelong attitudes and attributes such as determination, flexibility, confidence, enquiry and challenge, enterprise.

SKILLS – Our curriculum will empower the children with lifelong skills such as being as communicative, as literate, as numerate and as independent as they can be. Alongside this they will be able to start transferring these skills to different scenarios and situations in which they find themselves.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING – Our curriculum will help identify and build on the children’s individual strengths, it will enable them to make informed choices that affect their lives and will support them to develop their own personal aspirations as they get older.

ACROSS THE SCHOOL OUR CURRICULUM WILL BE SUPPORTED BY:

  • AN ETHOS OF POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT AND ENCOURAGEMENT

  • DETAILED AND INDIVIDUALISED PLANS (PERSONAL LEARNING PLANS, INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOUR PLANS)

  • ROBUST SAFEGUARDING POLICIES AND PRACTICES

  • A BEHAVIOUR MODEL BASED ON MUTUAL RESPECT, TOLERANCE AND UNDERSTANDING.
