Barclays Bank staff have raised an amazing £807 for Northway by holding a raffle and a cake sale and the bank then match funded their proceeds. The staff at the Mill Hill, Stanmore and Harrow branches work together to raise money for worthy causes in the community and selected our special school to help with communication aids.
James O’Meara Hub Manager, Katherine Wong, Branch Manager and Kamini Patel, Community Banker, presented a giant cheque to staff and children at Northway to buy some new iPads to help develop the pupils communication skills. The pupils and staff at Northway, an outstanding school, are thrilled with the donation and the prospect of new links in the community.
Children from Northway participated in our annual sports day, superbly organised by Stacey, our resident P.E. teacher.
Key Stage 1 took part from 10.30 to lunch time and started off with a child and parent warm-up and then followed it with some of their favourite activities on different stations. These included: parachute popcorn, bean-bag throwing, colour match games, a sensory circuit and a water challenge. To finish it off they had relay races and a parent race.
In the afternoon, Key Stage 2 took part in a child and parent warm-up and then took part in some of their favourite activities in class groups. These included: football dribbling, javelin, frisbee throw, basketball, a sensory circuit and to cool down, a water challenge. They finished off with relay races and adult races.
Northway had a special visit from a Bee-Keeper who taught the children in N and R class about honey and the importance of bees. We even got to see inside a real colony!
N & O class had a super visit to the Thames Valley Adventure Park. The children loved the park and played and learnt all day long!
We would like to extend a huge thank you to Pizza Hut, Mill Hill and Pizza Express, High Barnet, for donating pizzas for our Year 6 Camping.
Children from Northway participated in a sports event at Allianz Park. They were able to try out a range of different sports, from boxing to golf, rowing to rugby.

We experimented with exploration and discovery using our senses. We made Sensory Rockets, which were great fun thanks to Mark at ‘Hands On Science’. The children tasted different ingredients (apple juice, lemon juice, sugar and bicarbonate of soda) to help them create a rocket that launched with a ‘pop’.
During the day we ran a drama workshop with children from other primary and secondary schools.
