Medication & Health

MEDICATION AND HEALTH MATTERS

Northway School has good Health Care policies and structures in place to support pupils and their specific medical needs. We have links with local NHS healthcare professionals who advise and provide additional medical training to staff as required. The majority of the staff have a First Aid at Work qualification, with those staff working with the younger children also having Paediatric First Aid.

Emergency contact numbers

It is vital that we have up to date contact numbers for parent(s)/guardian(s) in case we need to contact you because your child is unwell or they have had an accident. Please keep the office informed of any changes in phone numbers, including additional emergency contact details.

Medicines

Medicines should only be brought to school when essential. Only prescribed medicines in the original container with a pharmacy label bearing the child’s name and dosage will be accepted in school. Please ensure if your child travels into school by transport that the escorts are aware of any medicines that the child may have in their bag so that these can be safely handed over to a member of staff. A medication consent form will need to be completed prior to medicines being given and can be obtained from the office or printed out from the link at the bottom of the page.

School Nurse

For those children who have more complex health needs or require emergency rescue medication then a health care plan will need to be put in place by the school nurse.

Our school nurse is Edel Mohan and can be contacted on:

Tel: 0208349 7058 / Mobile: 07824 457600

Email: E.mohan@nhs.net

Parents can also contact the school nurse regarding continence problems, dental care and other general health related enquiries.
